The Lubbock Medical Examiner is tasked with identifying human remains found in the median of Interstate 20 on the outskirts of Sweetwater Thursday. A cleanup crew picking up litter behind mowers uncovered the badly decomposed bones a couple of miles east of where US 84 merges with the interstate.
This corridor is heavily travelled at all hours of the day and night. Sweetwater Police Chief Brian Frieda can’t estimate how long the remains were hidden in the median, but the remains are in such a state of decomposition that makes it impossible to determine gender, race, age and cause of death.
