A west Texas community bank officially opened its Lubbock branch in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday.

Amarillo National Bank, which soft-opened in December, is operating under the name American National Bank locally.

Senior Vice President William Ware said the company decided to expand south because of the connection between Lubbock and Amarillo.

"Businesses work in both locations," Ware said. "We've got customers in both locations and the economies are so similar, so we felt now is a great time to come down here."

The bank also made a donation to the Children's Advocacy Center of the South Plains during the ceremony.

Ware said it is important for the bank to partner with organizations in the community.

"Our grandfather taught us that many years ago," Ware said. "We make a point to support as many community organizations as we can in the communities that we serve."

The bank is located in the  Mira Vista Shopping Center near the intersection of 82nd St. and Frankford Ave.
