Lubbock County commissioners helped residents in Precinct three with a some heavy-duty spring cleaning Saturday.

Dumpsters were placed throughout East Lubbock, encouraging residents to fill 'em up. Illegal dumping has been a big problem in the area and big fines are now being enforced to those with trash eye sores, a breeding ground for insects, mice and a major fire hazard.

Commissioner Lorenzo "Bubba" Sedeño organized a meeting of the neighborhoods, informing them of the big spring cleaning plan.

"It's very long overdue. Just trash build-up, you come out here and there's trash, weeds, who knows what's out here, I mean, we want to clean up this neighborhood," said Sedeno.

Commissioners hope the clean-up efforts will improve the overall look of the neighborhood making it welcoming for visitors, prospective home owners and most importantly for the children.
