One person is critically injured following an early-morning wreck in south Lubbock. Police Lt. Jon Caspell says the call came in at 2:49 of a wreck at U.S. 87 and 82nd Street.

Investigators report 41-year-old Benny Flores was headed northbound on the access road when he ran a red light, colliding with a city sand truck headed eastbound. Flores was pinned in his vehicle, the JAWS of life were used to remove him from the vehicle. He was airlifted to the hospital with very critical injuries.

Caspell says they are investigating red light running as well as speed and alcohol as possible factors. He says ice was not a factor. Investigators believe Flores was not wearing a seat belt.
