State agencies are emphasizing a recent change in law that may affect you on the roadway.

DPS is urging drivers to move over, and slow down for tow trucks. You will see messages on electronic highway signs this week stating: If tow truck stopped ahead, move over or slow down, it's the law.

By law, drivers are required to vacate the lane closest to the stopped vehicle or slow to 20 miles below the speed limit.

Bubba Seth with RP's Heavy Duty Towing said the dangers of towing still continue.

"You still don't see people get over," Seth said. "I almost got hit on the interstate a few weeks ago, he just kept on going. We are out here doing a job. We would like to have it as a safe environment for us."

Those who violate the law face a fine of up to $200 or more if the violation causes a mishap with property or bodily damage.
