Your help is needed with weather observations in our area. If you regularly measure rain and snow...or the lack thereof when storms systems move...then you can be a part of CoCoRaHS.

Here's what it stands for

Hail &

It's a network of volunteers that spans this nation and beyond, across North America. You know well the rain doesn't fall evenly across the South Plains. Even between the now 72 Texas Tech Mesonet sites, there can be significant differences in precipitation. More observers improves the data. This network first started in 1998 at Colorado State University.

Troy Kimmell is a state coordinator for the CoCoRaHS network and explained to the Austin American Statesman the need for more observers in our state. In fact, the majority of observers are close to San Antonio, Austin and Del Rio. I've met Troy a few times at National Weather Association conferences, he's a good guy who knows Texas weather. We need more here across the South Plains and Eastern New Mexico.
