A dangerous situation will start to take place in the next 12 hours. Extremely strong winds will blow in starting Sunday morning and will last until the afternoon. This will elevate the fire danger across the South Plains. There is a slight chance of some rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for areas highlighted in yellow. Please see pictures below.

Strong winds will start to pick up tomorrow morning out of the west and northwest. Here in Lubbock I'm expecting the strongest gusts to be around lunch time. Winds could gust as high as 65 mph! This will create dense blowing dust and dirt across areas on the caprock. A Blowing Dust Advisory will likely be issued for our area. Visibilities will be reduced to about a mile or even less. Damage to trees, utility lines and weak structures are possible tomorrow, especially with gusts near 60 mph. For folks traveling on north-to-south roads, please be cautious. Crosswinds will create problems for high profile vehicles.
The upper-level trough that will bring these winds will move east Sunday night. Monday is shaping up to be a very nice day with mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures.
There is a slight chance for precipitation Tuesday and Wednesday. An upper-level low will track well south of Lubbock. M
odels continue to struggle with the evolution of this feature and its impacts on the South Plains. Looks like the best chance to see some rain will be Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Locations in our southern and eastern counties will have the best shot for precipitation. We should get a better handle of things in the coming days.

Have a great weekend! Remember we are under a burn ban. NO OUTDOOR BURNING. I will have more to the forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
