It was a hot start to the workweek with temperatures several degrees above average both this morning and afternoon. Below is a look at some of the morning lows and afternoon highs from today.

It’s going to get even hotter over the next several days with triple digit afternoon readings expected on Wednesday and Thursday. Right now it looks like afternoon temperatures will be around 100 to 101 degrees, which is well above the average high of 88 degrees and just shy of the record high of 106 degrees.

The high pressure system responsible for the heat will break down some at the end of the week allowing our temperatures to cool down some especially by the beginning of next week with highs staying in the upper 80s. The big question now is whether we will see any rain over the weekend and at the beginning of next week. Right now it looks like most of the rain will stay to the north of us across northeastern New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle with some possibly edging into our northern counties. That being said, with still lots of discrepancies among the various model outputs we are going to wait and see how everything evolves over the next several days.

I hope you had a great weekend and great start to this week! I will step you through the forecast tonight on the News at Nine and Matt will have a complete updated forecast for you tomorrow morning.
