It was a very hot day across the South Plains with most of us warming into the 100s and many of us warming to several degrees above the century mark. The good news is that we still weren’t close to the daily record high of 112° set back in 2011. Below is a look at some of our morning lows and afternoon highs from today.

Tomorrow will shape up a lot like today, starting off the day in the mid 70s and warming to around 105° in the afternoon. After tomorrow the center of high pressure should shift far enough off to the northwest of us that we will start to see some relief from the heat. The position of the high pressure system by the end of the week into next week will also put us in northwesterly flow in the upper part of the atmosphere which is a good setup for the potential for rain. With several disturbances shown to move down in the northwesterly flow plus a couple of weak cold fronts entering the region on Friday and then again at the beginning of next week there could be enough lift in the atmosphere to spark off a few showers and thunderstorms. While there is a slight chance on Friday there looks to be a better chance next week although there is no great chance right now on any given day. At the very least temperatures won’t be as hot as we expect afternoon highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s next week.

I hope you had a great day and were able to stay cool! Join us tonight on the News at Nine for the latest on a very busy news day, plus I will step you through the forecast. Matt will have a full updated forecast for you tomorrow morning.
