A strong cold front moved through the South Plains today setting us up with a windy and cool day which will turn to a windy and cold night. Below is a look at both the current temperature and current wind speed.
We have a slight chance for a few spotty showers tonight into early tomorrow. It will get cold enough especially across our northern counties that we could see some sleet and/or light snow mixed in with these showers. We do not expect any accumulations and with any rain we see amounts will be light. You can watch for any potential precipitation with our live streaming radar below.
Our northern communities could see freezing temperatures tomorrow morning but most of us will start off in the mid to upper 30s. That being said, when you factor in the wind it will feel like it’s in the teens and 20s in the morning. Our afternoon highs will only be in the mid to upper 40s and with the wind it will feel like it’s in the 30s. The wind will be strongest during the first half of the day, from the north at about 25-35mph and gusts up to 45mph. We will finally see the wind relax by tomorrow evening and become fairly light into Friday morning.
Friday morning we will be even colder than tomorrow thanks to a light wind and clear sky. Most of us will see freezing temperatures, with low to mid 20s across the north, and upper 20s and lower 30s everywhere else. After the cold start to the day we will warm back into the mid 60s under a sunny sky.
The weekend will be nice with afternoon temperatures warming into the low to mid 70s, fairly light wind and sunny to mostly sunny conditions. A low pressure system will move on to the west coast at the beginning of next week and that possibly could shake up our weather pattern and provide us with some decent rainfall but that being a week away we still have to take the wait and see approach.
I will give you an update on our shower chances and quickly cooling temperatures tonight on the News at Nine. Matt will have a full updated forecast for you first thing tomorrow morning.
