Google+THIS MORNING: It's a humid start this morning with some fog across the area, temp in the 50s around Lubbock, 30s over the western South Plains. There have been a few isolated showers north and east of Lubbock. These will move east through this morning.
The Storm Prediction Center had posted a tornado watch for the far eastern Texas Panhandle and southwestern Oklahoma. Here is the severe weather outlook for the region today, yellow area showing where the potential for hail, strong wind and possibly an isolated tornado are possible:
RAINFALL: Most of us missed out on the rain. With that 20 percent chance for a storm the 80 percent for no rain panned out. There was a line of severe storms last night over the southwestern Panhandle and northwestern South Plains. The NWS posted a few severe warnings and this storm moved right over the Texas Tech Mesonet rain gauge, a good 1.3" there. Here are other rain totals through 5:30 a.m.:
HART 1.30 IN
PAMPA 0.56 IN
DIMMITT 0.18 IN
CLARENDON 0.11 IN
MCLEAN 0.09 IN
RALLS 0.04 IN
PADUCAH 0.03 IN
COOLER WEEKEND: It'll turn breezy this afternoon as a front moves across the area. There are a few issues to consider for the temperature. It's mild and humid this morning but drier air will move in. Also, some clouds will develop later this afternoon. It looks like Lubbock will top out near 62, upper 50s to lower 60s area-wide with a gusty NW/N wind 12-22mph. It'll stay breezy into this evening.
Tomorrow's high in the lower 50s with a continues N breezy. Sunday will be a little colder, morning low in the low to mid 20s, afternoon high in the mid to upper 40s.
CHANGES NEXT WEEK: Next week will be cooler than this week, highs in the low to mid 50s. Various forecast models are showing a wide range of solutions so there isn't high confidence just yet...but next week should be cool with some clouds. The GFS model is showing some rain in the region mid to late next week, the European model is drier. Both show a storm system somewhere over the southwestern U.S. or Baja, we'll just have to wait for better details over the next day. No good sign of rain yet.
Have a great weekend! Rudy will have your full forecast update later today here and on FOX 34 News @ Nine.
