STORMS LAST NIGHT: Thunderstorms that developed yesterday across Eastern New Mexico weakened a bit by the time they got to the South Plains, but were effective at producing strong wind. That's what led to the transition from some dust to thick dust here in Lubbock. Yeah...a day where we had varying degrees of how dusty it is. There was a little rain out west, 1/2" of rain at Dora, N.M. Here are some more totals:

Morton 0.32"
Muleshoe 0.29"
Levelland 0.21"
Olton 0.16"
Amherst 0.15"
Plainview 0.13"

TODAY: The overall setup hasn't changed much from yesterday to today. It'll warm to the mid 90s with a mix of sun and clouds. Wind S/SE 12-25mph with gusts over 30mph may be strong enough to again kick up some dust. There is a slight chance for thunderstorms to move from Eastern New Mexico to the western South Plains. Like yesterday, if storms can get into our area they could produce some gusty wind.

WEEKEND: Each morning close to 70, afternoon highs in the mid 90s. There is again a chance for a few thunderstorms west of Lubbock, but the chance looks lower tomorrow and Sunday. The wind will stay breeze tomorrow and somewhat breeze Saturday.

NEXT WEEK: The upper-level ridge of high pressure builds closer, which means even that slim chance for storms should fade. It'll also get a little hotter, edging closer to 100 by the middle of the week.

SUNDOWN TORNADO: The National Weather Service has rated the tornado that touched down SW of Sundown EF-2, estimated max wind 115 mph. Read more on their damage survey here.

Have a great day, I'll have an update to the forecast later today.
-Matt
