THIS MORNING: It's a humid start, which has kept the temperature a little warmer...close to 70 most of the area. We don't have many clouds now but with a lot of moisture throughout the atmosphere today will be like yesterday, more clouds by the afternoon.
TODAY: High near 85 in Lubbock, which is a degree below the average. Wind S/SE 10-20mph, sunset 8:00 p.m. We do have a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms. We've got the good moisture in place but are lacking the significant lift for a good rain setup. There is still some capping to overcome.
It's a different setup to our west, with a good chance for rain across Central New Mexico. In fact, rain is expected there next few days. The rain projection over the next week shows more than 4" in red, running from southern New Mexico to western Kansas. The light green here shows maybe a few tenths of an inch where ran does develop.
NEXT FEW DAYS: A few more showers and thunderstorms are expected tomorrow, but there's a difference in the guidance on where they'll be placed. A few model runs show the rain here...a few others keep the rain farther west. For now we'll keep a slim chance for rain here. Drier air will build in the second half of this week into the weekend, which will lower the rain chance. But the middle of next week is starting look better for rain, though it's too far out for specifics.
TEXAS TECH FORECAST: Kickoff in the mid 80s, partly cloudy sky. We can't completely rule out a shower, but the chance is lower than today or tomorrow.
Have a great day. Rudy will have an update to the forecast later today. An important programming note, the finale of So You Think You Can Dance is a live show tonight on FOX 34. President Obama will address the nation on Syria at 8 p.m., then the show will resume. The News at Nine will follow, a little bit past 9 p.m.
