THIS MORNING: We've got a few areas of rain and a few thunderstorms early on. We had a line of showers and storms work across much of the area from north to south. Rain wasn't terribly heavy, but there were some good downpours. Lubbock's airport has picked up about 0.26" from yesterday through 4:30 this morning.

Here are some of the top 24-hour totals running through 4:30 off of the TTU Mesonet...these will change with some more rain this morning:

Caprock Canyons 1.93"
Dora 1.42"
Hart 1.40"
Tulia 0.91"
Amherst 0.88"
Muleshoe 0.80"
Plainview 0.71"
Levelland 0.69"
Olton 0.67"
Aiken 0.56"

TODAY: We'll see a few showers and thunderstorms around this morning, temperature in the 60s...making it up to around 83 this afternoon, mostly cloudy, wind E-SE 5-15mph. It's a decent chance we'll see some more showers and storms developing later this afternoon into this evening.

TOMORROW: It'll get a little warmer and the overall setup looks more like spring than summer. We'll top out in the upper 80s to low 90s. With a strong front on the way the rain and thunderstorm chance looks better. Mentioning the more spring-time look...we do have the risk for severe weather tomorrow afternoon and evening. If storms can form ahead of the front, ahead of what will likely be a line of storms, then the severe risk will likely be established. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted much of our area with the risk in yellow:

The chance for rain and storms will continue into early Thursday, with a chance for a few more storms Thursday afternoon. It looks like the Thursday chance will be limited, with better lift moving off to the east. Behind the front we should only make the upper 70s to low 80s Thursday.

WEEKEND: Much hotter weather returns. A stout upper-level ridge will build in. Only thing keeping us from forecasting 100-103 at this point for the weekend into early next week is the expected rain next few days. But with a ridge this strong it should take just a few days of the heat to dry things out enough to get up around 100 some time early next week.

Have a great day and check back here for updates on the weather. Rudy will have a full update to the forecast today. I'll be on vacation for about the next week, Caitlin will be here with the morning updates.
