Google+HEAT WAVE: Today will be pretty close to yesterday and not much change in store through the workweek. Yesterday's high was 100 in Lubbock. We're forecasting 101 for Lubbock this afternoon, temp range of 97 to 102 on the Caprock, 101 to 106 off of the Caprock. Wind SW/S 6-14mph.
We should make it up to about 101 tomorrow, 102 Thursday, 100 Friday. While this is well above the average high of 93 these aren't records. The record high for today is 104, 106 tomorrow, 105 Thursday.
WEEKEND: The upper ridge should weaken some...but it's not completely going away. This should allow the high to drop back into the 90s. Monsoonal moisture to our west may get into the area, at least bringing some clouds. The rain potential doesn't look good.
It looks like high pressure will hold steady into next week, meaning more hot weather.
HEAT COUNT: After yesterday we move to 16 days that Lubbock has reached at least 100 degrees this year. The count from last year is 34. We are not going to catch last year. August 2011 began with nine straight days of triple-digit heat.
Have a great day! Rudy will have an update to the simple forecast later today.
