Some light rain fell around the area last night into this morning, but most locations haven't picked up much. The greatest total on the Texas Tech Mesonet is Lake Alan Henry with 0.35". Here are some other totals:
It's just been about 0.01" at Lubbock's airport. While most areas didn't get much, roads are wet this morning. The temperature has stayed above freezing, so no icing concerns.
TODAY: The disturbance that brought the clouds and rain is lifting north and east and it'll turn warmer and breezy here, high near 60, wind W/SW 12-25mph. It'll be back around 40 by 9 p.m., wind shifting out of the NW. Sunset tonight 5:40 p.m., tomorrow we'll add another minute...sundown at 5:41 in Lubbock.
Today will be the warmest day since at least Sunday, when we hit 58...but will probably be the warmest since Dec. 4 hit 74. It's pretty easy to forget the first four days of the month were in the 70s when it was followed by a prolonged cold snap.
NEXT FRONT: Yeah, yet another cold front. But this one should only cool it down for tomorrow, high in the upper 40s. The wind will be gusty from the north tomorrow morning, gradually backing off in the afternoon. It'll still be mostly sunny.
MILD WEEK: Sunday through Thursday it'll be mainly sunny with the high in the upper 50s Sunday to mid 60s by Thursday. A quiet pattern is shaping up here. This will probably be your best span of days to get any shopping, outdore chores or anything else done you need before Christmas.
NEXT COLD BLAST: Models are still on track with another shot of cold air down here by some time next weekend. Right now it looks like that front would get here Friday, but of course we're talking about a week out...a lot will change in the guidance in the coming days. But it's looking likely that next weekend will be much colder than this weekend.
I hope you enjoy the weekend, Rudy will have a full update to the forecast later today and Caitlin will have the updates this weekend.
