BREEZY TODAY: The temperature will be close to what it was yesterday, but the wind will make it feel cooler. We've got 20s to begin the day, high temp near 52 in Lubbock, NW/N wind 15-25mph this afternoon. Here is our forecast for the area:
There is a weak upper-level disturbance that has produced some light, isolated showers over SE Colorado toward the OK and TX Panhandles early this morning. As this disturbance moves south it could produce a few sprinkles or flurries, mainly east of Lubbock. No measurable precipitation expected. It'll mainly just bring an increase in clouds.
WEEKEND: It's a much different story for the weekend. The average high is 63 and we'll go slightly above that mark tomorrow. An upper-level ridge is building in from the west, promoting warm and mostly sunny afternoons. As it moves closer we'll make the low to mid 70s Sunday with a SW breeze.
NEXT FRONT: The wind will get a little stronger Monday and about half of our area should warm up. The next cold front will arrive some time Monday. Right now it looks like Lubbock will warm to the 70s with the cooler air arriving during the evening...a little cooler northeast of the city. If that front gets here earlier then Monday's temp will be lower. It'll cool some Tuesday before warming through the week.
NEXT WEEKEND: It's a long way out there, but both the GFS and European models have shown a large trough developing over the western United States later next week. That could set the stage for rain here next Friday or Saturday. A lot could change, but it's a good sign that models have been on track with this for several days.
Have a great weekend. Rudy will have the next forecast update this evening, Caitlin will have your forecast through the weekend.
