TODAY: It's another clear morning, though the temperature is running a few degrees warmer than yesterday morning. This trend will continue into the afternoon, it should be a few degrees warmer than yesterday's high of 87...around 90 here in Lubbock, mainly sunny. The wind will get stronger, SW/S 10-20mph, sunset tonight 7:40. Here is the area forecast:
NEXT FEW DAYS: We're watching a strong upper-level storm system that's centered near Seattle this morning. It'll move east in the coming days. This will draw moisture across the region from the Gulf and also help kick the wind up, S/SE wind getting stronger tomorrow and Friday.
With the moisture in place and a high in the 90s we might see an isolated shower or storm tomorrow, though it's a low chance.
THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL: Computer guidance has been pretty consistent developing thunderstorms late Friday into early Saturday. The upper-level storm system will approach from the west, providing support for storms. Because we'll have faster SW wind aloft moving over SE wind at the surface there will be enough shear in the atmosphere to produce a few severe storms. We'll need to watch this for storms late Friday. Some showers or storms could continue into early Saturday as a cold front approaches.
Behind the front it'll be dry and sunny, high in the 70s Saturday and Sunday with mornings closer to 50 Sunday and Monday mornings.
Some thunderstorms could affect high school football games Friday night. Check back here for updates on the forecast as we get closer.
Have a great day. Rudy will have the next update later today.
