Google+HOT WEEKEND: High temp in Lubbock near 96 today, mid to upper 90s area-wide beneath a mostly sunny sky, wind E-SE 5-15mph. A few fair-weather cumulus clouds should devleop during the afternoon. Next few days there is enough moisture in place that an isolated shower or two is possible, though the chance is low.
The big picture shows the big high pressure dome over the Four Corners edging east to the Central Plains. This is what's leading to the slight warmup for this weekend. High near 94 tomorrow, 93 Sunday.
While the ridge is moving this way it won't be right on top of us. Some model runs suggest an upper disturbance will slide across the state. It should bring more rain downstate, but a few model runs bring rain here to West Texas Sunday into Monday. We'll wait for more model runs depicting this...it doesn't look too likely just yet.
NEXT WEEK: If we do get rain ealry in the week it would knock the temp down. For now we're holding the forecast close to the average high of 93. A few more clouds are expected Sunday-Monday. With high pressure close by it should be your typical summer afternoons, few clouds and hot, nice evenings.
The rain potential may again go up late next week, but you know the drill in summer...have to get closer before anything looks promising. We don't see any big spikes in the heat any time soon.
Have a great weekend! Rudy will have a full update to the forecast later today, Chase will have your forecast through the weekend.
