Low in Lubbock was 27 this morning, breaking the daily record of 30 from 1918. This also breaks the monthly record of 29 degrees set May 7, 1917.

posted Friday morning
RECORD COLD: It's dropped to 28 degrees this morning as of this writing. This breaks the daily record of 30, set in 1918. It also sets the monthly record low of 29 degrees set May 7, 1917.

A sunny and warmer day is ahead, though still about 14 degrees below the average of 80. Near 66 in Lubbock, wind NW/W 10-16mph. With surface high pressure...a strong high center for this time of year...to the soutwhest of our area the temp range will be pretty minimal, generally mid to upper 60s:

It will get chilly this evening...50s at 9 p.m. Keep that in mind if you're going to the First Friday Art Trail. Also, it'll be cool for morning events, including the MS Walk. Low in the 30s with a clear sky. It might briefly drop to freezing for areas north of Lubbock tonight, mainly along Hwy. 86, but there's a good chance the area avoids a freeze.

WEEKEND: 70s with lots of sunshine. The wind will stay in check both days, N/NE 5-15 mph tomorrow, NE/SE 5-15mph on Sunday. It'll be a nice day for Lubbock Lemonade Day and the big Cinco de Mayo celebration.

NEXT WEEK: The air will get more humid and the nights and afternoons warmer. There are some pretty big differences between each model and each model's run on how the overall patern will shape up. An upper-level low should develop out west, but models are struggling on the placement of it through next week. It does appear we'll get that moisture in place but there still isn't a good sign on if and when we'll get good lift in place for showers and storms. We may get some rain some time middle of next week, but too far away for specifics on just when.

Have a great weekend. Rudy will have an update to the forecast later today, Caitlin will have the updates this weekend.
