THIS MORNING: It's another morning with scattered showers and storms. We've had heavy rain across the southwestern and southern South Plains last night into early this morning. This rain has generally shifted east of Lubbock. Showers are slowly moving NNE. Some of these will produce 1/2" of rain, with isolated totals better than an inch. Here is the radar live stream:Broadcast live streaming video on Ustream
TODAY: The rain will lift northeast through this morning. It's just a slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm this afternoon, partly cloudy, high near 87. Where the heavy rain falls this morning or afternoon it'll be a little cooler. Wind S-SE 10-20mph.
FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND: The rain chance drops and it gets hotter. With high pressure aloft expanding across the region it'll be a lower rain chance and high temp each day in the 91-95 range. Keep in mind the average high is 93, so not too bad through next Wednesday.
For the concerts downtown tonight and tomorrow night the weather looks good, just a slim chance at a shower tonight. For the Fourth on Broadway Parade tomorrow it'll be in the 70s and 80s. Definitely plan with hats and sunblock, it'll be mainly sunny.
RAIN CHECK: We're now up to 10.87" of precip at Lubbock's airport, about 1.4" above the YTD average. Here is where we compare to precip for the entire year last few years:
The average precip total for the entire year, based on data from 1981-2010 is 19.12".
Have a great day and a Happy Independence Day. Rudy will have your updated forecast here later today.
