TODAY: It's going to be cooler with a mostly cloudy sky and a decent chance for rain. The good news is the severe weather threat is very low, while the available moisture is high. A sign of this is 0.9" of rain that fell at Hobbs last night. While not everyone will see rain, where showers and storms develop you can expect some healthy downpours of at least 1/2", though some 1" rain totals will be possible.

It's mostly cloudy this morning, the storm system is in SW Texas. As the upper low moves this way it'll promote growth of showers and thunderstorms. A few isolated showers are possible this morning, the better timeline for showers and storms runs from after Noon into this evening. A few showers could continue into late tonight. It won't rain all day at any one location, but you could get a few showers through today.

The National Weather Service Midland office has issued a flash flood watch for much of West Texas. This watch comes up to our southeastern communities, including Lamesa, Gail and Snyder. I think the greater flooding risk is south of our area, but the watch means there is the potential for some flooding issues if heavy downpours train one after another.

NEXT FEW DAYS: The storm system will be lifting northeast, leading to more sunshine here. We should make the upper 80s, a slight chance for a few showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon. Sunday looks hotter and mostly sunny, high in the mid 90s. A few models do show some nighttime thunderstorms Sunday, we'll watch this trend.

NEXT WEEK: The high pressure dome builds back west, closer to our area. But it doesn't mean the rain chance is completely gone. Models show some storms developing over New Mexico and moving this way by night on both Monday and Tuesday. The chance for storms looks better Monday, so we've got that noted on the seven-day forecast. We'll keep an eye on the data for Tuesday, see if that rain chance gets better. It should get hotter later in the week.

Caitlin will have a full update to the forecast later today. Hope you get some rain!
