The weekend was very nice, and Monday won't be too bad if you like hot temperatures. We're looking at southwesterly winds bringing in a lot of warm air for Monday, starting off near 50 and warming all the way up close to 90. Lots of sun will also help our temperatures.
A very strong cold front arrives early Tuesday. The timing of that front is a little up in the air still. We're expecting a low on Tuesday near 40, but if the front gets here a little earlier then we could see lows in the low to mid 30s for Lubbock. Regardless, Tuesday afternoon will be cold. Strong northeast winds will bring cool air in throughout the day and with mostly cloudy skies, we'll only get up to about 50, maybe even colder than that.
This system looks like it's going to be dry, unfortunately. Our best chances for rain will be for our far eastern counties. If they get anything, it will just be a light drizzle. For the most part, most of the South Plains will remain dry.
A high pressure system takes over on Wednesday kicking out any leftover moisture from the low. That will help us see a little more sunshine and also help us slowly warm back up for the end of the work week. We're expecting highs in the low 60s for Wednesday, low 70s for Thursday and low 80s by Friday and the breezy conditions lasting until then.
A second low will arrive from California by Thursday and that will help the warm up process because it will continue to pull in the warm air. Chance for rain and maybe some thunderstorms are only slightly better with this system. It is also looking to be on the dry side of the scale, so we're still not expecting much precipitation, but that could change between now and then.
Enjoy the warmth while it lasts! Matt will have an updated forecast and blog for you in the morning.
