It was another very hot day with most of us warming into the 100s and many locations seeing afternoon highs several degrees above the century mark. The good news is that we still weren’t close to the daily record high of 114°, which is also the all-time record high for Lubbock set back in 1994. Below is a look at some of our morning lows and afternoon highs from today.

A weak cold front is moving south across southern Colorado and Kansas as of this writing. Showers and thunderstorms have formed along this front and should continue into the night. The question remains if this rain will last until the front makes it down into the South Plains overnight. The atmosphere across the South Plains is not in good shape to support showers and thunderstorms but a few could make their way down into our northern counties before they completely dissipate. You can watch this line of storms push south with our live streaming radar below.
The front won’t cool us down much tomorrow as many of us will once again warm into the 100s. A few isolated showers and storms could form tomorrow afternoon but the better chance will be across the higher terrain in New Mexico with most of this activity staying to the west of us. The center of high pressure responsible for the extreme heat the past couple of days will move off to the northwest and loosen its grip on us opening up the chance for showers and thunderstorms on any given day next week. While we will have a slight chance for rain each day it certainly doesn’t look like we will see widespread rainfall, mainly just isolated showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures next week will also be quite a bit cooler, with afternoon highs staying in the 80s for most of us.

I will have an update on the location of the cold front tonight on the News at Nine plus break down the rest of the forecast for you. Matt will have a full updated forecast for you tomorrow morning.
