We are wrapping up another beautiful day across the South Plains!
A cool start, quickly turned into a warm afternoon!
Temperatures will be about the same each day this week, starting off in the low 30s, and warming to the upper 60s. There are signs for a fairly significant cool down by next weekend, but models are still not in complete agreement regarding the temperatures to expect and the chance for precipitation.
In the short term, our focus will be on a breezy to windy start to the workweek. Sustained winds up to 25mph can be expected, with perhaps even stronger winds on Wednesday. With the warm and dry air in place, we expect relative humidity values to get down around 20% during the afternoon hours. General parameters that raise concern for fire danger would be winds sustained over 30mph with relative humidity values below 15%. That being said, the fire concern is there to start off the work week, but we have certainly seen worse at times. The same drill as always, don’t throw cigarette butts out the window, be very careful when doing anything outside that could cause a spark, and report any wildfire to your local authorities immediately.
Join me tonight on the News at Nine as I step you through your workweek forecast. Matt will start off the week with you on Good Day Lubbock.

** While we have been in a stretch of mostly unseasonably warm weather, Alaska has had one of their most brutal winters in a long time. Fairbanks high yesterday was -42°, which is the coldest high since 01/2/2000, and their low today was -51°, which is the first time for them to drop below -50° in 6 years! Below is a look at this morning’s low temperatures across that region. **
