It was another gorgeous Spring-like day across the South Plains!

This pattern will continue for the next couple of days, although temperatures will start to gradually become a little cooler on Wednesday, and winds won’t be much of a factor until the end of the week.

An upper level low pressure system looks to dive down across the Great Plains towards the end of the week. That is about all we can say with absolute certainty. Models continue to differentiate between the timing, strength, and location of this system, plus the same models are constantly changing their outputs with each new run. We will continue to wait for better run to run consistency with each model plus better agreement among the different ones. If this system were to move farther to the south than is currently expected, than we could see some chances for rain and likely cooler temperatures as well. Right now, we are keeping our forecast dry, with breezy and cool conditions for the weekend.

** Thursday is Groundhog Day. According to the tradition, if Punxsutawney Phil (the name of the groundhog) sees his shadow and returns to his burrow, that means we will have 6 more weeks of Winter, and if he doesn’t see his shadow and stays outside then Winter is over. With the unseasonably warm Winter that the nation has had so far this year, many people will be saying that Winter hasn’t even started yet! **
