The 15th-ranked Texas Tech women's basketball team took care of business once again Wednesday night racing past visiting Western Kentucky 75-38 at the United Spirit Arena.
The victory moves the Lady Raiders to 10-0 on the season, the best start in Kristy Curry's 13 seasons as a head coach.
"I'm just happy for the kids and their commitment," Curry said. "This team has their heart in the right place, I don't know what is going to happen but I do know that everyday they are going to lay it on the line and try to do all that they can to be successful."
Tech jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead in the first four minutes of play and never trailed en route to the dominating win.
Coach Curry received a balanced scoring attack from her team as junior guard Casey Morris led the way with 11 points on 3-for-5 shooting from behind the arc while Monique Smalls compiled another all-around performance dropping nine points, dishing out three assists, grabbing a team-high five rebounds and recording five steals.
"The fans get into the game and it gets into your head and gives you extra energy," Smalls said. "And getting into the defense it's like if I don't get a steal I know my teammates are going to get it because putting a lot of pressure at the top helps Kierra (Mallard) or the back post to get the steal."
The Lady Raiders wrap up the non-conference schedule on the road in San Diego, Calif. with a two-game swing featuring Cal State Bakersfield on Dec. 29 and San Diego on Dec. 30 before returning back to the United Spirit Arena to open up Big 12 play on Jan. 4 against Oklahoma State.
