LUBBOCK, Texas - For the third straight year, Texas Tech has been picked third in the Big 12 Conference women's tennis preseason poll, league officials announced on Thursday.
The poll, which is conducted amongst the 10 head coaches of the Big 12, picked Baylor first and Texas second for the second straight year.
Ironically, Texas Tech has won a share of each of the last two Big 12 Conference regular season titles, despite being picked third. The last two seasons have also seen the Lady Raiders make consecutive appearances at the NCAA Championships, including serving as one of 16 host sites last season.
For the second time in three years, the Baylor Bears have been unanimously selected to claim the Big 12 regular season championship by a vote of the league's head coaches.
The Lady Bears received nine first-place votes to secure the top spot over Texas, which tallied one first-place vote. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team in the poll.
Texas Tech will travel to Waco on Sunday to take on Baylor in the Big 12 season opener.
