LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior Jaelene Hinkle earned the first of potentially several preseason accolades on Tuesday as she was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com preseason Best XI first team.
Hinkle was one of just three defenders nationally recognized on the first team by TopDrawerSoccer.com, one of the top publications to cover collegiate soccer. The TopDrawerSoccer.com Best XI Teams are the equivalent of preseason All-America squads.
Hinkle was named a third team All-American by the NSCAA following the 2013 season after helping lead a stout Red Raider defense that ranked second nationally in shutout percentage and third for goals-against average.
The Denver, Colorado native was not only instrumental in stopping the opposition, though, as she created multiple goal opportunities for the Red Raiders, who scored their most goals (48) in a season since 1996.
Hinkle dished out a team-high six assists on the year, ranking among the Big 12 leaders for the category. She enters the 2014 season with 15 career assists over the past three seasons, which already ranks fourth all-time in the Texas Tech record book.
The Red Raiders will report for the 2014 season later this evening, beginning with a team meeting before opening preseason practice Wednesday morning at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
Tech opens the 2014 season in less than 20 days as New Mexico will travel to Lubbock for the Aug. 22 season opener set for 7 p.m. at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
