Texas Tech announced on Monday that Red Raider Offensive Line Coach Chris Thomsen has been named interim Head Coach in anticipation of the upcoming Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas.

Thomsen is finishing up his first year at Texas Tech after serving as the Head Coach at Abilene Christian for seven years. While at ACU, Thomsen helped turn the program into a national contender as he led the Wildcats to a 51-21 record during his seven seasons as head coach. He earned the Lone Star Conference South Division Coach of the Year award four times during his tenure after leading the Wildcats to the NCAA Division II playoffs six consecutive seasons.

Thomsen tabbed receiver's coach and ex-Tech quarterback Sonny Cumbie as the Red Raiders' play-caller, while both Thomsen and Athletics Director Kirby Hocutt have confirmed commitments from coaches on Tech's defensive staff through at least the bowl game.
