A job promising security can make or break your decision when choosing a career. "The two fastest-growing jobs are home healthcare aides and personal care aides," Maria Keenmon with South Plains Workforce Solutions said.

She says one industry in particular is a clear standout for having occupations that are expanding."The healthcare industry shows great potential, for job openings in the next 2 to 3 years," Keenmon said.

In a preliminary report, Workforce Solutions estimates 5 out of 6 of the top fastest-growing jobs to be in the medical field.

Registered nursing is growing at a rate of nearly 31 percent. Colleges like South Plains, trying to meet the demand."We have a waiting list on nursing and we plan to nearly double our student enrollment,"Rob Blair with South Plains College said.

While some of the jobs like respiratory therapists and pharmacy technicians do require additional training, educators say it's worth it. "I wouldn't think they'd have any problem getting a job," Blair said.

South Plains College looks to produce more graduates equipped to handle green jobs."We're certainly prepared to provide Lubbock with manufacturing production technician skills that's needed for those employers," Blair said.

And some employers are already on the lookout."There's a big need for production workers, for management, for electricians, and computer data entry," David Mojica, assistant human resource manager for Cargill said.

Cargill Meat Solutions employs nearly 2100 workers in Plainview, and the industry as a whole shows no signs of slowing down.
