It's not unusual to leave your purse or wallet in the car, and sometimes attract the wrong kind of company. Restaurants and retail parking lots, the hot-spots for places to either lose belongings or have them swiped.

"People keep debit cards and those kinds of things but my advice would be to keep those to a minimum. Because in the event you're compromised or its been stolen, it's just hassle to call and alert the authorities," James Arnold with Lubbock National Bank said.

Arnold says dialing up your credit card company or bank is the first step in what needs to be a quick plan of action."I always keep a list of those numbers on my iPhone and computer at home so if something happen,s I have access to those numbers," Arnold said.

Calling fast could make you liable for purchases up to 50 dollars, and in some cases, that fee will be waived.

"When you come to us, We would close your checking account here at the bank and open a new checking account," Arnold said.

He says while your drivers license and credit card are pretty standard to carry, and easy to replace, some things should stay at home."Never keep in your wallet a social security card. A lot of people do as a reference, and should keep them at home," Arnold said.

It's also not adviseable to constantly travel with wads of cash or blank checks on you. If you do have a blank check stolen, immediately call the bank to stop that check number.
