It is somewhat of an adage for those in the medical world: The key to long term health is prevention. That is the basic idea behind the Women's Health Day free clinic by the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Medicine.

During an interview on Good Day Lubbock, Lauren Tollack, a second-year medical student, explained the importance of preventive medicine.

"If we can detect those abnormalities before they become disease, we stand a much better chance of treating it, preventing it, and keeping you healthy."

The Women's Health Day free clinic is set for October 26th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the TTUHSC Student-Run Free Clinic, 2707 34th st.

Because the free clinic typically does not offer certain women's services, Women's Health Day will make it possible for uninsured women to get mammograms, pelvic exams, pap smears, STD tests, pregnancy tests and prenatal referrals It is recommended that patients make an appointment by calling 806-337-2098.
