FirstCare renews canceled health plans for 2014

A regional heavyweight in health insurance has decided to follow the lead of President Obama and renewed canceled health plans for 2014. 

The nearly 165,000 members of FirstCare can keep their current coverage until Dec. 31, 2014. The company will renew coverage on Jan. 1 for customer whose plans were canceled under the Affordable Care Act, after the president announced his revised policy. 

FirstCare is partially owned by Covenant Health in Lubbock, and has offices located in Austin, Abilene, Amarillo and Waco.
