New Mexico regulators approved Xcel Energy's plan to buy more wind power for its Texas and New Mexico customers.

Xcel's power purchase does not require approval by Texas regulators. The electric company reports three pending wind energy contracts will save its customers an estimated $590 million in fuel costs over 20 years.

That power will be purchased from wind farms in Oklahoma, the northern Texas Panhandle and eastern New Mexico.
