Mayor discusses future electricity needs

Amid a possible rate increase, Mayor Glen Robertson said the city has also been thinking about future electricity needs. Xcel's contract runs out in 2019. He said there is a request for a proposal out right now to have third parties come in and look at providing generation for Lubbock.

When there were 2 electric service providers, the future electricity needs were irrelevant to the people. if LP&L could not sell electricity at a reasonable price, the people dumped the city and switched to Xcel. Bring back free market competition.
