A Houston-based pipeline company will pay a $5,000 fine for a spill impacting Scurry County. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the fine settles a Clean Water Act violation that occurred in January when 4200 gallons of oil leaked from a two-inch crude gathering line and into Bull Creek, which is a tributary of the Colorado River. The oil ran approximately a quarter-mile into the creek and brought it's flow to a halt.
As part of the settlement with the EPA, Enterprise Crude Pipeline certified it has cleaned up the oil spill and has taken corrective actions that will prevent future spills.
