Kat's Kitchen- Skillet Cookie

1 stick butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 egg
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 to 1 cup of chocolate chips
1/2 cup pecans or walnuts, optional

Heat an 8 inch cast iron skillet over low heat. Melt butter in skillet. Remove from heat. 
Stir in sugars and vanilla. Let cool for five minutes. 
Quickly whisk the egg into the butter and sugar.  
Add the flour in three increments. 
Stir in baking powder and salt. 
Add chocolate chips and nuts, if desired. One cup of chips makes a very chocolaty cookie. 
Bake at 400* for 20 minutes, or until golden in the center. 
Cut into pie-shaped pieces, and serve with ice cream.
