Carla's Sugar Cookies
3 cups flour, sifted
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, cold
1 egg
3 Tablespoons cream, cold (or milk)
1 teaspoon vanilla
Stir together flour, sugar and baking powder.
Cut in butter with blender until it looks mealy.
Mix in the rest of the ingredients.
Chill in refrigerator for 30 minutes, if desired.
Roll out 1/4" thick, and cut with cookie cutter.
If you decide not to frost the cookies, sprinkle some sugar over them before baking.
Bake on a parchment lined baking sheet at 400* for 5 to 8 minutes.
Frosting
4 Tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups powdered sugar
4-8 Tablespoons heavy cream
5-6 drops of food coloring, if desired
Cream together butter and vanilla.
Add powdered sugar gradually. When you dump in the last of the sugar, add cream little-by-little. You may not use the whole eight Tablespoons.
Mix in 5 to 6 drops of food coloring, if desired.
Smooth frosting over cookies with a spoon, or use a piping bag to make more decorative cookies.
