Kat's Kitchen- 4th of July Trifle

3 cups strawberries, chopped (reserve a few to decorate top)
1 cup blueberries (reserve a few to decorate top)
3 Tablespoons sugar 
1 orange, juiced
36 lady fingers
Vanilla pudding, recipe below
Whipped cream, recipe below

Stir berries with sugar and orange juice. Let sit for at least 30 minutes. 
In a trifle dish, layer ingredients in this order: a single layer of lady fingers, 1/3 of the berries, 1/2 of the pudding, lady fingers, 1/3 of the berries, the last of the pudding, lady fingers, rest of the berries and the juice. Top with whipped cream. 
Decorate top with fresh berries and lady finger crumbles. 
To store, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. 


Vanilla Pudding

2 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon of butter
2 teaspoons vanilla

Mix milk, sugar, cornstarch and salt in a small sauce pan. Cook over medium-low heat until it is thick enough to coat the back of a metal spoon. 
Remove from heat, and stir in butter and vanilla. 
Cool before building the trifle.


Whipped Cream

1 cups heavy whipping cream
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoons vanilla

Whip together all ingredients until it becomes whipped cream.
