There are indications the 23rd James Bond movie, which opens this weekend, may be the biggest one yet. "Skyfall" opened overseas last week with $156 million. It's biggest success, you might guess, was in the UK.
The third installment to star Daniel Craig in the role of 007 finds "American Beauty" and "Road to Perdition" director Sam Mendes at the helm, which sounded intriguing to me when I first heard about the choice.
Reviews have been stellar, too. It's currently 93 percent positive on the Rotten Tomatoes review web site.
The movie is officially set for release Friday, but IMAX screens are being allowed to open it a day early. And wouldn't ya know it - Lubbock just got one of those a couple weeks ago. Premiere Cinemas will open "Skyfall" on its IMAX screen Thursday with a 12:07 a.m. screening. It'll then play throughout the day. Tickets are available here
Tinseltown USA will be showing midnight screenings after 12a.m. Friday morning. Tickets for that showing are here.
And let's not forget about the Stars and Stripes Drive-in, which will also open the movie Friday.
In all, the new 007 movie will play on, gasp, seven(!!!) screens in Lubbock.
No other new movies are set for release nationally or in Lubbock this weekend.
