After numerous delays and teases, Premiere Cinemas will open its doors at the South Plains Mall on Oct. 26.

Plans were first announced by the Big Spring-based company for the state-of-the-art theater in March of 2011 with the hope of being open by the end of the year. That didn't happen. Then there were reports Summer 2012 would be the target.

But now, at last, we have a hard date.

It's not like we didn't have places to see movies in the meantime, but with all the bells and whistles Premiere was promising, audiences couldn't be blamed for being antsy and impatient.

The company letter announcing the opening reminds us of all the features that will be included: 71,000 square feet, 16 stadium screens and 3,500 luxurious high-back leather rocking chairs; an IMAX theater seating more than 400 with a screen measuring 72 feet wide; 7.1 surround sound; some theaters feature D-BOX seats, which vibrate and move with the film; a main concessions bar that's 100 feet long, plus other little concession stations.

And that's just for the movies. There are also two full-menu cafes and lounges that serve burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, chicken strips, salads and more.

Alcohol will be served at two bars - both of which will be open to the public without the need of a movie ticket. There's a Starbucks in the lobby, too.

To paraphrase the Vice President, this is a big deal.

Ticket prices are as follows:
$5.25 - Early Bird, 1st showing -- Daily (only if 1st show is on or before 12 pm)
