Whoever is choosing the titles for Cinemark's Classic Series has impeccable taste indeed. The series that ran all summer had some great choices for Lubbock audiences to see on the XD screen at Cinemark Movies 16, and the movies lined up for the weeks ahead feature more excellent choices.Aug. 23 "Jaws"
A Spielberg masterwork in tension that still makes me wary of beaches."We're gonna need a bigger boat."Aug. 30 "High Noon"
A seminal western with Gary Cooper that's a gold standard for the genre."I've got to. That's the whole thing!" Sept. 6 "Doctor Zhivago"
An epic love story from director David Lean that will look smashing on the big screen. Wonderful performances from Omar Sharif and Julie Christie."Who are you to refuse me anything?" Sept. 13 "Chinatown"
A personal favorite of mine, this amazing noir from Roman Polanski is moody, mysterious, and features Jack Nicholson's very best performance. "I godd****d near lost my nose. And I like it. I like breathing through it."Sept. 20 "The Bridge on the River Kwai"
Another Lean film, and this is my favorite of his - yes, even more than "Lawrence of Arabia." It's a PoW adventure with Sir Alec Guinness forced t work for his Japanese captors."What have I done?"Sept. 27 "The African Queen"
A cheeky and lovely romance between a drunken riverboat captain (Humphrey Bogart) and a straight-laced missionary (Katherine Hepburn). She wants to use his boat to attack a warship. "Lady, I may be a born fool, but you got ten absurd ideas to my one, and don't you forget it!"
Each of those dates is a Thursday, and the movie will be shown at 2p.m. and 7p.m.
If you were making choices, what would you like to see Cinemark show on the big screen?
