A ductless air conditioning system works like a traditional heating and cooling system but without the ductwork. For situations where you may not have ductwork or if installing ductwork is difficult, these are ideal systems.
These systems can cost between $1,500 and $2,000 per ton of cooling capacity, but they are more efficient.
According to Angie Hicks, creator of Angie's List, you lose about 20% of the efficiency with ductwork.
Some ductless systems also provide heat. You may need to purchase a separate heat pump, but some models come with heat strips already installed.
