According to a nationwide Angie's List poll, more than 40 percent of respondents say they'll host holiday dinners this year, putting their ovens, refrigerators and garbage disposals to the test.
To avoid having appliance repair top your Christmas list, be sure you are not over-working your appliances. Do not stuff freezers and refrigerators with food, as this can block the air supply.
Clear plates of large food debris before putting them in the dishwasher. Also, do not put too many dishes in the machine, or they will not be clean when the cycle is over.
If you have not used your oven in some time, test it out before the big meal. Do not use the self-clean cycle before preparing a holiday dinner. These cycles cause the oven to run at extremely high temperatures, which could cause them to fail. Keep your oven clean by wiping it down after each use.
Keep in mind that your refrigerator is the most used appliance in your kitchen, so simple maintenance is key. Wipe down in the inside and outside, and consider dusting around the coils.
