There are two more days of early voting then the state election next Tuesday, November 5.
The Speaker of the Texas House Joe Straus discussed why he thinks you should support Proposition six on the November 5 ballot.
Prop six, which was approved by a bipartisan majority of state lawmakers in May, would establish a $2 billion fund statewide for water and conservation projects.
Speaker Straus said that the investment will help more than 4,500 projects in the state's water plan and be sufficient to fund them for the next 30 to 50 years.
Critics worry the money won't have much of an impact for small communities. But Straus believes the opposite will happen if Texans get out and support the investment in our future water supply.
"We're growing by 6 million people every decade, and yet our water supply is moving in the opposite direction," Straus said. "So in order for our children and our grandchildren to have opportunities and our economy to continue to grow we have to have a sustainable supply of water. And you have a lot of agriculture here, too that relies obviously on consumption of water and having a supply of water, so this should be a proposition that people in Lubbock and this entire region should get out and vote to support."
Early voting on Prop 6 and eight additional amendments to the state constitution ends tomorrow. Election day is Tuesday.
