Our Eddie Griffis says remember the four D's when preventing West Nile Virus.
"There was recently a confirmed case of West Nile virus located in Lubbock County. Things to remember when it comes to West Nile Virus, remember the four "d's"when enjoying outdoor activities, and that's dawn and dusk, deet, drain, and dress. Avoid being out when mosquitoes feed, and also at dawn and dusk. Wear protective clothing, long sleeves and pants when outdoors. Use appropriate repellent according to instructions on the label. Spray clothing with repellent as mosquitoes can bite through the fabric. Apply repellent to exposed skin. Avoid perfume that attracts mosquitoes. Also, keep your horses in mind. Horses are very susceptible to West Nile virus, and make sure you have the vaccine in those animals so you're not treating a horse or eventually losing a horse because of West Nile virus."
