The average age of the American farmer is 55. Our Eddie Griffis tells us how Texas Ag Commissioner Todd Staples is planning ahead to get the next generation involved in production agriculture for our state.
"Recently Commissioner Todd Staples Awarded $150,000 in farm funded grants to 18 young Texans to create and expand agriculture business. In an ongoing effort to promote and sustain Texas as a powerhouse in agriculture productivity, Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples announced grants awarded to young farmers and ranchers totally $150,000. The young farmer and rancher grant program is entirely funded by farmers and involves no state tax revenue. With many farmers and ranchers hitting retirement age, we need to recruit young farmers to fill their boots. Also, it's an effective financing option that can be utilized by young farmers across the state."
