The number of people abusing the farm plate and permit privileges has increased.
Our Eddie Griffis told us of a few new regulations in place to ensure farm plates are winding up in the hands of people who use them to make their living.
"A new law for plates for excess weight permits required by farmers and ranchers to show proof of eligibility," Eddie Griffis said. "We have a lot of overweight vehicles on the road right now especially with grain harvest and cotton harvest and everything else that goes on. Before farmers and ranchers can obtain license plates and temporary excess weight permits a new state law requires they show their state comptroller issued Texas agriculture or timber exemption registration number. This will prove that they are able to haul those products. The law will ensure that no one can infringe upon privileges extended to our qualified farmers and ranchers who deserve them. So again try to get people off the road that are going in and giving false information about being able to take overweight vehicles or use the farm use exemption to be able to haul products."
